study for test - Test will be Tuesday. Dissection of the Kidney is Monday
1. Review your vocabulary, this will help you greatly with the test
2. Know your functions of the kidney. Know what your kidney regulates. What is the most abundant substance your kidney secretes.?
3. Know the structure of your kidney, cortex, medulla, renal pyramids, renal pelvis,
4. Know the structure of your nephron, renal corpuscle (consists of 2 things), renal tubule (what are the 4 structures that make this up)
5. Know filtrate flow and blood flow
6. Make sure you are able to explain the 3 processes or steps in the formation of urine (filtration, reabsorption, secreation), Be able to define each.
7. Know the structure of the ureters ( where do these enter the bladder), urethra ( male and female structure) (location) (glands in women for lubrication), bladder (trigone) ,
8. Know the hormones, ADH, Aldosterone, ANH . what do they do? and where are they secreted from.
9. what are the 3 ways urine can be examined using a urinalysis, and what those characteristics show us.
10. Know the properties and characteristics of urine!
11. know how the juxta-glomerular apparatus controls BP in kidney: sensory receptor (senses what), releases renin, what does renin do, what is the vasoconstrictor, how does this help raise your BP,
12. DO make sure that you know : cystitis, urethritis, renal calculi, hydronephrosis, pylonephritis, neurogenic bladder, hemodialysis, IVP and C & S adn what does the specific gravity of urine tell us.
